We provided the full range of mechanical, electrical and public health design services for the new-build Duchess’s Stand (8,879m²), which is located next to the Queen’s Stand at Epsom Downs Racecourse. To enable the construction of the new Grandstand, three existing buildings had to be demolished.
The site infrastructure design was extremely complicated, requiring extensive surveys and the assessment of existing utility loads serving the site.
The work involved a review of the infrastructure, and the upgrade of the electrical and gas supplies, storm water and foul systems.
The conference/exhibition space was designed to take not only pedestrian traffic, but to also be used for major sales promotion and product launches, including new vehicles.
A Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) was provided as a low zero carbon (LZC) technology to minimise building energy use and provide a heated ground floor. Consequently, careful construction was required to maintain the floor’s integrity.
We worked in close liaison with Roberts Limbrick Architects throughout the project.
